When Denny Gross opened the concession stand at Goldman Park on Monday night, he knew what had happened.

“We’ve been robbed, vandalized,” he told his wife.

Gross said between 4 p.m. Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Monday, thieves broke into the concession stand, stole the Middletown Youth Softball Association’s public address system, $60 in cash and concession food. Gross said the hot dog roller and microwave were not stolen.

He said the concession stand has been broken into before.

“Very rough neighborhood,” he said.

The concession stand was closed Monday during games, but it will be open tonight, said Gross, who had just returned from the grocery store purchasing supplies.

He said the concession stand was “roughed up” and someone busting pickle jars. Whoever broke into the concession also opened numerous drawers and file cabinets. They found the $60 in start-up money that Gross said was “well hidden.”

On Monday night, officials with the MYSA wrote they discovered vandalism at the organization’s concession stand and offices in a Facebook post Tuesday evening.

“To whoever came in to our building and busted open the concession stand door and took everything! Then busted our office door and took our sound system! Just know you stole from over 200 kids!” officials wrote in the post. “Everything you took belonged to our kids at MYSA!”
