Two men charged by Monroe police for a woman’s shooting death on Feb. 4 will be in a Butler County courtroom this week for the first time since their arrest.

Jordan James Lay, 22, of Mason, was indicted last week by a Butler County grand jury on multiple charges of murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence for the death of Amy Risner, whose body was found in a home in the 100 block of Anne Road, according to the indictment.

Nicholas Alan Mattox, 23, of Trenton, was indicted on two charges of tampering with evidence. Both men initially were booked Feb. 5 into the Butler County Jail on suspicion of aggravated murder.

Bond was set at video arraignment on Feb. 6 at $1 million for each.

Lay and Mattox are scheduled to be in court Wednesday morning for arraignment on the indicted charges. Judge Greg Howard could change bond.

Court records filed in Butler County Area II court said Lay confessed to killing Risner, a 32-year-old mother of three sons.

Police were called shortly before 4 p.m. Feb. 4 on a report of an unresponsive person. Risner was pronounced dead at the scene, and her death was ruled a homicide by the Butler County Coroner’s Office. The cause of death is listed by the coroner’s office as “pending.”

In an application for a warrant to search the house, police said Risner suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The house and Risner had been the subjects of a drug investigation by the Warren County Drug Task Force for months before the homicide, according to court documents.
