A man tried to pay for his $8 order at McDonald’s with a counterfeit $100 bill, according to a Middletown police report.

But the bill was “easily noticeable” that it was counterfeit because there was Chinese writing on both sides of it, the report read.

Police were called at 6 a.m. Friday to the McDonald’s, 2351 N. Verity Parkway, on a report that someone tried to pay with a counterfeit bill. The manager told police a man drove up to the drive-through window and tried to pay for two orders with the bill. The cashier confronted the man and told him he couldn’t use the money.

The other man in the car became “abrasive and upset” because he wasn’t getting his order, the report read. The vehicle pulled forward and the passenger came into the restaurant and paid for the $8 order with authentic currency.

Police reviewed the video and recognized the passenger from previous traffic stops, according to the report.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
