A man who overdosed Saturday in the Middletown City Jail is in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service because of an unrelated parole violation, officials said.

Quamae M. Young, 30, at large and formerly of Cleveland, overdosed after he was charged with drug abuse/fentanyl. He was scheduled to appear on that second-degree felony charge this week in Middletown Municipal Court, according to records.

After overdosing, Young was transported from the city jail in a Middletown ambulance followed by two police cruisers to Atrium Medical Center. An hour later, a Middletown city official said Young was expected to survive the overdose and return to the jail.

But before he was released from the hospital, Young was picked up by the U.S. Marshal’s Service office because of a parole violation from an earlier robbery charge, according to a city official.

On Monday, the drug charge against Young was withdrawn by Middletown Prosecutor Ashley Bretland, according to court records.

In 2012, Young was free on a $10,000 bond and failed to appear for arraignment on charges of having weapons after a felony conviction and child endangering in Cleveland, according to media reports.
