Former Lebanon City Schools choir director Kristi L. Ross is seeking treatment in lieu of conviction on charges stemming from her alleged embezzlement from a booster group.

Ross, 36, of Centerville, is accused of making purchases of personal items on Amazon, using the Lebanon Choir Parents Association credit card for the purchases and submitting the purchases for reimbursement using falsified invoices indicating the purchases were for items used by the Decibelles, a show choir club.

She is facing a felony theft charge and misdemeanor counts of misuse of credit cards, tampering with records and falsification.

The motion filed Thursday argues she is eligible for the alternative sentencing “and not a dangerous offender.”

Prosecutors allege Ross used credit cards belonging to the choral group to order “personal items” totalling $2,121.37 “without permission of the organization” and attempted a cover-up.

Ross, who had been with the Lebanon schools for 10 years, was placed on administrative leave on Oct. 31 “pending the investigation of certain matters relating to your employment,” according to district records.

The case came to light in November when district Superintendent Todd Yohey said she was placed on leave based on an accusation from a school’s booster organization.

Ross resigned and was charged initially in December in Lebanon Municipal Court.

She was indicted in February.

Ross previously taught and directed choirs in Carlisle Local Schools from 2006-2009. Superintendent Larry Hook indicated Ross’ personnel files showed no problems while she worked in the Carlisle school district.

She has declined to comment and her lawyer, Dennis Lieberman, declined comment Friday.

Ross remained free on her own recognizance, pending a June 25 hearing on the motion.
