Two assaults that happened over the weekend remain under investigation by Hamilton police.

Jonathan R. Cardwell, 20, of Carlisle reported “he was shot by an unknown subject in the area of N. 9th St. and Campbell Ave.,” according to a police report filed about an hour after the incident, which happened between 11:10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

He had a gunshot wound to his left bicep.

In what police say appears to have been an unrelated incident, Juan Rual Palma Jr., 20, reported being stabbed in the right leg in the 200 block of North Erie Boulevard around 7:53 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the incident happened during a random encounter after Palma ran out of gas there and was assaulted by someone he knew, an extension of an earlier issue between the two.

Both were taken to the hospital, treated and released.
