Grandma loses $6,000 in ‘bail bait scam’

An 86-year-old West Chester Twp. resident fell victim to a “bail bait scam” and is now out $6,000.

The woman received a call from someone claiming to be her nephew who said he was incarcerated following a crash in Florida and needed bail money, according to township spokeswoman Barb Wilson.

The woman was told to buy Home Depot gifts cards to raise the bail, which she did, Wilson said.
