Police initially interviewed Stoneman while looking for a missing teenager and arrested after the officers realized he was wanted on a warrant, Fornshell said.
Stoneman was arrested on a day students around the nation walked out and held protests to draw attention to school safety, gun control, and the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla.
“We applaud the Mason Police Department’s swift actions that are a tribute to the city’s investment in its Campus Security Team. City and School leaders are continuing to further enhance the campus security concept, and we are investing in increasing the police presence at all of our schools,” Tracey Carson, the school district’s public information officer, said in a statement.
