1 in custody after Fairfield bar shooting

Fairfield Police continue to investigate a shooting last weekend that sent two people to the hospital.

Police say Travis Dezarn, 26, of Cincinnati, brandished a firearm outside Scotty’s Pub, 22 Donald Drive, just after 1 a.m. Saturday. Dezarn fired one shot, according to police, that struck Dale Jessie Hundley III, 23, of Hamilton and James Coffman, 39, of West Chester Twp.

One of the victims, who was found by police in the parking lot, was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. His condition was not available Tuesday.

The other victim was taken to Mercy Health — Fairfield Hospital, where he was in good condition, according to police.

Dezarn is being held without bond in Butler County Jail on two counts of felonious assault and one count of having weapons while under disability. Dezarn has been through Fairfield Municipal Court on five criminal cases since 2006. His past charges include drug trafficking, failure to appear, probation violation and domestic violence. A preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for Tuesday has been continued.

The owner of Scotty’s Pub, Jim Coffman, said the shooting took place in the parking lot.

“All I really know is there was a bunch of people rushing for the front door. I got up to see what was going on. A shot was fired, and that’s all I really know,” he said. He described the victims’ injuries as “flesh wounds.” He also noted the bar’s security “took the (perpetrator) down.”

“I’d really just like it all to blow over … this could have happened anywhere,” Coffman said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department at 513-829-8201.
