2 jailed on suspicion of murder in Middletown woman’s death in Monroe

Two men are jailed on suspicion of aggravated murder of a 32-year-old Middletown woman who died Tuesday.

Jordan James Lay, 22, and Nicholas Alan Mattox, 23, were booked into the Butler County Jail on Wednesday following their arrests, Monroe police said.

Crews were called shortly before  4 p.m. Tuesday on a report of an unresponsive person in the 100 block of Anne Road in Monroe. Amy Risner was pronounced dead at the scene, and her death was ruled a homicide Wednesday by the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Her death remains under investigation, Monroe police said.

Lay and Mattox are being held without bond.

FIRST REPORT

The death of a 32-year-old woman Tuesday evening has been ruled a homicide by the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

Amy Risner of Middletown was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m. in the 100 block of Anne Road in Monroe, according to the coroner’s office.

The cause of death is pending.

Officer Joshua King said Monroe police officers were called around 3:50 p.m. to a residence on a report of an unresponsive person. Detectives and coroner’s office investigators were then called to the scene.

“This is a very active investigation,” King said.
