Less than two months after being released from prison, a Cincinnati man has been charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault in Middletown.

Scott Alexander Jones Jr., 27, was charged with the two felonies after Middletown police found him Friday night, two days after he allegedly robbed a man of his debit card and shot him in the leg, according to Middletown police Chief David Birk.

Jones appeared Monday for his arraignment in Middletown Municipal Court. Judge James Sherron set bond at $750,000, and Jones remains in the Middletown City Jail.

His preliminary hearing was set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to court documents.

Jones was convicted of aggravated robbery in 2010 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to the Ohio Department of Corrections. He was released from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility on Jan. 27, 2020.

Birk said “good old police work” led to the arrest and it was due to a collaborative “great effort” from patrol officers and detectives.

Jones was found Friday walking near a residence in the 400 block of Curtis Street and was arrested without incident, Birk said. He said witnesses gave police a description of the vehicle and that led to finding Jones.

Jones allegedly shot someone in the leg Wednesday night in the 2100 block of Hill Street, Middletown police said.

When questioned by police, the man found shot and lying on a porch said he didn’t know who shot him or what happened, according to the police report.

Witnesses told police they heard three gun shots and saw a car leaving the scene with no headlights on.

A bullet hole was found in a vacant residence in the 2100 block of Hill Avenue and police recovered three shell casings, the report read.
