“This bad boy, K9 Blue, was donated to us by our favorite Chicago Cub and Middletown’s very own Kyle Schwarber,” the Facebook post says.
The dog was part of Schwarber’s annual charity block party event last year in Chicago. The charity, Neighborhood Heroes, is a campaign designed to recognize first responders and honor their heroism, courage and devotion to duty.
The Labrador, painted by Susan Clausen, is about 54 inches high and weighs about 150 pounds and is made of fiberglass. The design includes the silhouettes of a police officer, firefighter and a soldier watching over the Chicago skyline, according to the Facebook post.
Schwarber, a Middletown native, comes from a family of first responders. Officer Lindsey Schwarber, who is a K9 officer, is his sister. His mother is a nurse and was a an MPD dispatcher. His father, Greg Schwarber, was a 31-year veteran of the force and served as chief of police.
