A Cincinnati man indicted for the November shooting of a Middletown man will be back in court next month.

Van Jackson, 21, is charged with attempted murder and felonious assault for the Nov. 1 shooting in Bailey Square near the intersection of South Second and Chestnut streets in Hamilton.

FIRST REPORT: Police respond to shooting in Middletown

Jackson is housed in the Butler County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

He appeared before Butler County Common Pleas Judge Jennifer McElfresh on Thursday for a pre-trial hearing. The case was continued until Feb. 6.

The shooting occurred just after 1 p.m., according to the Hamilton police report. Jeremy Watson, 33, of Middletown, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Several residences were also hit by gunfire.

According to officials, Jackson was wounded in the crossfire and later showed up at an area hospital.

Officers and detectives were at the shooting scene for four hours collecting bullet casings and other evidence.
