SWAT team finds suspect dead in Fairfield home

The Hamilton-Fairfield SWAT team responded to the residence at about 8 p.m. Saturday, then, eight hours later, found a suspect dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound.

Fairfield police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Walter Avenue regarding a complaint of gunshots, according to a press release.

When officers arrived, they also heard what appeared to be gunshots coming from within the residence. The Hamilton-Fairfield SWAT team responded to the scene and was fired upon by a suspect at the residence, but no one was struck and they did not return fire, police said.

At approximately 4 a.m. Sunday, the SWAT team entered the residence and found the suspect deceased from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident is still under investigation.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available, police said.
