Bar fight involving box cutter leads to felonious assault charge for Franklin man

A Franklin man was charged with felonious assault with a weapon after he allegedly stabbed a patron Sunday morning at a Middletown bar, according to police.

Ryan S. Lakes, 30, was charged with the second-degree felony after he allegedly attacked a fellow patron of @ the Square, 1045 Central Ave., according to a report.

Lakes was arraigned Feb. 25 and will have a preliminary hearing Monday in Middletown Municipal Court, according to records.

According to the victim, witnesses and the bar’s surveillance video, Lakes got into an argument with a patron, then stabbed him at least twice with a box cutter. The bartender told police he called 911. Another customer said that during the fight she hid in the restroom.

The victim, who received lacerations to his rib cage and neck, was taken to Atrium Medical Center.

Lakes left the bar after the incident, but he allegedly tried to stab another patron who was standing near the front door. Police found Lakes near Main Street and Reinartz Boulevard. He was taken to the police station, and he told police he as “buzzed” on alcohol and he didn’t remember getting into a fight.
