Three people have been charged in connection to the burglary of a home of a Middletown man who had been shot and killed just days earlier.

A family member checked Benny Barefield’s Ninth Avenue house on Dec. 26, 2018 after learning from her sister that someone was trying to sell Barefield’s personal items, according to the Middletown police report. Barefield was shot to death on Dec. 14 in his car at the corner of Ninth and Yankee Road.

The back door had been forced open, and the house was ransacked. A large amount of clothing, personal items and four televisions were missing.

Family members told police they believed neighbors had the stolen items in their home.

Police searched the residence, and three people were charged last week

William Horsley, 36, of Azel Avenue, is charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence; Amanda Neeley, 34, of the 800 block of Ninth Avenue, is charged with complicity to burglary; and Felicia Dees, 38, of the 100 block of Rockford Drive, Hamilton, is charged with complicity to burglary and tampering with evidence.

All are scheduled to be in Middletown Municipal Court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

Police say the burglary is not connected to Barefield murder. Three men and a teen have been charged in connection with the homicide.
