Officer Marc Madama, 41, of Loveland, was charged with OVI and driving in marked lanes after troopers stopped him at 3:45 a.m. Sunday on Ohio 4 near Ross Road, according to court records.

A review of Madama personnel file by this news outlet showed two letters of reprimand, both from last year:

  • allegedly trying to circumvent authority to get sick time
  • faulted for sending a woman to the police station rather than help her with her with a stolen phone report

There are also 22 letters in his file from residents and others who thanked Madama for his work, including:

  • Andrea Rehkamp with Mothers Against Drunk Driving of Southwest Ohio wrote a letter to Madama in 2006, after he arrested a man for his eighth OVI. "We at MADD recognize all the unheralded police officers who watch over our nation's roadways as our first line of defense against drunk drivers," Rehkamp wrote. "We applaud the hard work and dedication you have shown Officer Madama."

This news outlet has attempted to contact Rehkamp for comment about Madama’s arrest.
