We spoke with company officials about the hiring process at Dungarvin and what roadblocks they encounter. Here’s what they had to say:

Q: What’s the biggest challenge facing the company and others in the industry and how is the company uniquely positioned to address that challenge?

A: "As an industry, we face a major shortage of qualified workers across the country primarily because we are locked into offering lower wages due to our capped Medicaid funding. Dungarvin provides a supportive structure and work environment for our employees. We are pleased to report that many have been with us for five, ten, even 15 years and more. We also partner with Sengistix, an affiliated company that provides technology-based supports that not only assists with our workforce needs but allows for greater independence for the people we support."

Q: What’s the most prevalent roadblock you encounter when it comes to hiring and what can job seekers do to remedy that situation?

A: "Because the population we work with is vulnerable and living in the community, there are many background compliance and transportation requirements that we must follow. Job seekers need to know and understand that we will conduct verification to ensure they meet these requirements as conditions of employment."

Q: What’s the vision for the company’s growth, both jobs and otherwise, for the next five years?

A: "The demand for community-based support has never been greater. Dungarvin intends to continue expansion into Butler County, where there is need for qualified direct care staff. This will create additional opportunities for full and part time employees who will be hired to assist the people we support in their homes and communities."

Q: Some job seekers are concerned about the limits of advancement within a company. To what degree can your employees advance from entry-level roles to be promoted to greater positions within the company?

A: "Dungarvin has many opportunities for advancement. We place a premium on promoting employees to positions of increased responsibility. Entry-level direct support professionals are often promoted to lead positions within their assigned work locations. We provide additional training and support that often assists these employees in advancing to supervisory or support department positions. This can be within the state of Ohio, or in some instances, we have promoted local employees to regional or national positions within our organization. A significant number of our middle and upper management started their careers providing direct support."
