Fairfield Twp. police are looking for one or more suspects who allegedly vandalized Heroes Park on Millikin Road.

Police spokesman Sgt. Brandon McCroskey said police received a call from Fairfield Twp. Service Department director Jeff Bennett late last week about multiple instances of vandalism at Heroes Park.

“It’s purely speculation, based on what was done, it’s probably juveniles,” McCroskey said. “In my opinion, it’s probably juveniles. It’s just childish, it’s not generally what we see from adults.”

On Sept. 13, a birthday cake was smeared on the outside wall of the public restroom. Then a few days later, on Thursday, a bench was found on the top of a tunnel of the playground area. Additionally, benches were flipped, swings were wrapped around the top of a swing set and food wrappers were littered throughout the playground area.

Heroes Park is also home to the Fairfield Twp. Veterans Memorial, which is under construction. Police say the memorial construction site was not vandalized as the vandalism was limited to the playground area.

“It was just stuff being moved around and tampered with,” McCroskey said. “No permanent damage was done.”

There are no cameras that oversee Heroes Park, but McCroskey said there will be extra patrols around the park area.

Anyone charged with this crime would be charged with criminal mischief, a third-degree misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 60 days in jail and/or up to a $500 fine, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

At this time, there are no suspects, but anyone with information should contact the Fairfield Twp. Police Department by either calling 513-887-4406 or visiting the station at 6485 Vonnie Vale Court.
