A Hamilton man who allegedly robbed a bank last week in Carlisle is a person of interest in a 2016 bank robberies in Franklin and Springboro.

Springboro and Franklin police officials said Mark Lunsford is a person of interest for a June 30, 2016 robbery of the Peoples Bank branch in Springboro and the July 15, 2016 robbery of the Peoples Bank branch in Franklin.

The man who allegedly robbed the Franklin bank left the scene in a gray pickup truck which was similar to how the man who allegedly robbed the Carlisle bank fled the scene last week.

Lunsford, 58, was arrested Thursday at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Ind., for one count of theft/receiving stolen property. He appeared for arraignment on Friday, where a $500,000 surety bond/$35,000 cash bond was set.

Lunsford is being held in the Dearborn County Jail and has a pre-trial hearing scheduled on the Level 6 felony at 1:30 p.m. April 30 in Dearborn County Superior Court II in Lawrenceburg, according to the Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office. Lunsford is facing a prison sentence of six months to 2 1/2 years in that state.

Carlisle police Chief Michael Bruck told this news outlet that casino security recognized him from Facebook posts by police on Thursday.

“The officers did a good job on Facebook,” he said. “They got a lot of phone calls as a result of the post.”

Bruck said Lunsford allegedly cased some area banks before robbing the bank in Carlisle.

“It was good police work and great use of social media,” Bruck said. “Facebook can be a double-edged sword but it was a good tool this time. We had the guy’s name within hours.”

Bruck said that Lunsford will be charged with robbery, a second-degree felony. He said that a holder has been placed on Lunsford pending extradition proceedings. Bruck said he was not sure of the timetable for Lunsford being returned to Ohio.

Detective Sgt. Jamie Mays of the Fairfield Twp. Police Department said Lunsford is also facing a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony because he allegedly took the gray 2004 Dodge Ram pick-up truck out of state. Fairfield Twp. police also placed a holder on Lunsford.

Mays said Lunsford borrowed the pickup truck from a mutual friend on March 9 and did not return it as agreed. He said Lunsford allegedly had the pickup truck for four days before the friend called police after trying to call him.

He said there could possibly be evidence from the bank robbery in the pickup truck.

Mays said Lunsford would be returned to face the robbery charge in Warren County before facing the charge in Butler County.
