“We saw the need,” said co-owner Fitim Islami.
Because the 2,000-square-foot restaurant had been a popular pizza restaurant for decades, that history attracted Islami and his business partner, Mensur Demnika. “It’s famous,” Islami said of the building, adding it also helps to be along a high a high-traffic corridor.
Deminka, who is also an owner of Napoli’s Pizza in Miamisburg, said the pizza business is one he knows well. It’s a communal food “and people love pizza,” he said. “Kids, young, old, everybody loves pizza.”
Those who are familiar with Napoli’s will have an idea what Calabria offers. But being new to Hamilton, Deminka said he recommends a few different types of food for first-time customers.
Anyone looking for pizza, which features homemade dough and Grande cheese, should start off with either the New York-style cheese pizza. Other popular pizzas are meat lovers, bruschetta and their white pizza, which has ricotta and spinach.
They also have calzones.
Those in the mood for something other than pizza and calzones could try one of the several types of salads or the four-way pasta, Demnika said, “so you can try all kinds of pasta in one dish.”
Calabria’s is open noon to 9 p.m. six days a week, Tuesdays through Sundays. They can be reached at 513-795-6017 or 513-795-6015, or orders can be made online at bit.ly/OrderCalabriaPizza.
