Sprankles, who joined Butler Tech’s leadership in 2017, will then take over the 18,000-student public career school system that serves high school and adult learners in 10 school districts in Butler County and Northwest Schools in northern Hamilton County, along with 120 satellite programs.
“I am incredibly proud, honored, and excited to step into the role of CEO/Superintendent of Butler Tech and to continue serving the students, staff, and communities that make up this remarkable institution,” Sprankles stated in an announcement.
“Since joining Butler Tech in 2017, I have had the privilege of learning under the leadership and mentorship of Jon Graft, with the unwavering support of our dedicated school board and district leaders,” said Sprankles.
Brett Guido, president of the Butler Tech Board of Education, said Sprankles “dedication to education and his innovative approach aligns perfectly with Butler Tech’s values and goals.”
“We are confident that his leadership will continue to strengthen our programs and positively impact our students, staff, and community,” said Guido.
While scheduled to leave his job in the spring, Graft said he has agreed to stay with Butler Tech after the spring and transition to the role of Butler Tech Strategic Advisor beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.
The board approved Sprankles three-year contract with an annual salary of $175,000.

He told the Journal-News since his start with Butler Tech seven years ago he has come to “thoroughly and deeply understand the impact that career tech can have on changing student lives and changing entire communities.”
He also cited the “positive culture and a strong comradery amongst the Butler Tech team” under Graft’s leadership and added “it’s a really special place to be.”
For students, Sprankles said, his move to leadership will mean “a continuation of strong teaching practices and relationship building practices by our staff.”
“Our exceptional staff—both in classrooms and career tech labs—continues to set the standard in programming, instruction, and relationship-building, positively impacting thousands of lives. At the core of Butler Tech’s identity are meaningful relationships with students, innovative programming, and a strong workforce pipeline that fuels economic development in partnership with our business and community stakeholders.”
“I am eager to build upon this foundation and lead Butler Tech into an exciting future of continued growth and opportunity.”
