A Butler County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant has died following a brief illness.

Corrections Lt. David Reynolds, who had worked for the department since 2001, died Thursday after being hospitalized.

Reynolds, 58, began his career as a corrections officer and rose through the ranks, according to a sheriff’s office social media post.

“His co-workers could not say enough about what a great guy he was. ‘In the trenches guy.’ ‘Cannot imagine this place without him.’ He always stopped to talk to everyone and was never too good to help a rookie or an inmate,” the post says.

Reynolds was also a member of the Hanover Twp. Fire Department years ago and was an ordained minister who officiated several employees’ weddings.

He is survived by his wife, Becky, his three sons - Andrew, Nathan and Jacob - and his grandsons, Atticus and Luca.

“We love you David and will never forget our memories of you and the legacy you’ve left behind.” the posts says.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said Reynolds was “a super great guy. He was a quiet, unassuming man. Inmates loved him, officers loved him. A terrible loss.”
