Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones appears in a new trailer for the movie, “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” starring Zac Efron.

Jones appears in a scene in the movie about notorious serial killer Ted Bundy. Jones is shown in an interrogation room with the serial killer and Metallica lead singer James Hetfield.

The movie was shot last year in the area.

The movie about Bundy stars Efron in the title role and has cast actress Lily Collins as Bundy’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.

Some of the fun facts about the movie:

Sheriff Jones shot scenes in Kenton County, and the crew also filmed in Butler and Clermont county jails. The speaking part landed Jones a Screen Actors Guild card.

Several locals found parts as extras

Casting agency D. Lynn Meyers, which has dealt with multiple movie productions in the area, found a few faces from the region to appear as extras in the movie.

Huge production looked for local connection

Film Hamilton’s Steve Colwell, who has facilitated several big-screen productions coming to the area, said “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” is a huge production that was looking forward to filming in the region.

Movies made in the region draw interest

Several Butler County residents got bitten by the acting bug and made appearances in the movie “Tiger,” which filmed in the area in 2015 and starred Mickey Rourke along with Prem Singh in the title role.

“The Old Man and the Gun,” a movie produced by and starring Robert Redford, filmed scenes in downtown Hamilton last April. In addition to Redford, the movie featured Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover and Casey Affleck.

Tax credit still helping draw films to Ohio

In 2016, Ohio Gov. John Kasich increased the tax incentive that Ohio offers for film projects to be produced in Ohio from $20 million a year to $40 million a year for the next two years.
