Ohio Rep. Wes Retherford, R-Hamilton, has been appointed to serve on the Elder Abuse Commission.

The Elder Abuse Commission is facilitated through the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and works to improve education, increase research and raise awareness about elder abuse in the state. Elder abuse can be physical, sexual, verbal and emotional and can include neglect, abandonment and financial exploitation.

Retherford has sponsored or co-sponsored several bills and initiatives to combat elder abuse.

“I have worked tirelessly since my first year in the legislature to see that the Ohio Elder Justice Act was signed into law. Through the budget this year, I saw that dream become a reality,” Retherford said. “The fight against abuse and fraud on our elderly population is not over and I look forward to doing my part along with my fellow members of the commission.”
