In a statement this week from officials at BCESC’s main Hamilton office, Brown as lauded as having “played a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the BCESC, fostering innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to serving the students, families and communities of Butler County.”
Each of Ohio’s 88 counties has taxpayer funded educational service centers serving their public school districts.
Brown’s eight-year stint in charge of the BCESC, which supports 10 Butler County public school systems – and periodically others in adjacent counties – has been marked by an expansion of assistance programs that have impacted thousands of K-12 students locally.
“We are deeply grateful for the outstanding leadership and dedication that Chris has provided over the past eight years,” said Steve Feldman, BCESC Board of Education President. “His vision and tireless efforts have left a lasting impact on our staff, partners, and the communities we serve. He will truly be missed.”
The BCESC Board of Education also announced the commencement of a superintendent search “to ensure a seamless transition in leadership.”
The search process will officially begin in March with the posting of the position. The board is committed to finding a candidate who not only upholds the values and mission of the BCESC but also represents the 765 staff members and the diverse stakeholders the agency serves throughout much of Southwest Ohio, said officials.
The educational services center’s many programs are designed to assist local school districts and save them costs by providing personnel – including substitute teachers - and a wide-range of services – including periodic district superintendent hiring searches – along with education assistance program.
The BCESC’s role helps eliminate the duplication of costs incurred by the county’s 10 school districts, an especially important function for Butler County’s smaller school systems.
“The role of superintendent is critical to the success of the BCESC and its mission to support our communities,” said BCESC Board Member Elaine Garver. “We look forward to identifying a candidate who is not only excited to lead but is also well-positioned to represent our staff, communities, and stakeholders with passion and dedication.”
Officials said “the BCESC board is working to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive search process by seeking input through listening sessions. These sessions will provide opportunities for staff and stakeholders to share their perspectives and contribute to the search process for the next superintendent.”
Officials said they hope to have a new superintendent in place by Aug. 1 to allow for a smooth transition of office when Brown retires in December.
