The company did not return calls seeking comment Monday regarding the Sept. 12 closure and the possibility of other area locations being next on the chopping block.
Founded in 1948 in Rio Grande near the Ohio River, the breakfast chain was sold off to private equity firm Golden Gate Capital in May 2017 by publicly traded parent Bob Evans Farms Inc. and taken private as Bob Evans Restaurants.
The chain closed dozens of under-performing restaurants in the two years prior to the sale. In April 2015, Bob Evans announced it was shutting down 20 restaurants. In April 2016, the company announced another round of closures, this time targeting 27 restaurants.
