A local businessman working to revitalize downtown Middletown has been tapped to become the president of the Sorg Opera House Revitalization Group.

Roger Daniel, a SORG board member, was appointed to succeed Chuck Miller, who resigned his seat last month to become executive director of the Fox Theater in Kansas.

Daniel is a former chairman of the Downtown Middletown Inc. board, which has championed the redevelopment of downtown Middletown. He has been a member of the SORG board for several years.

The board also named Chris Riva as its vice president. He owns a media and marketing firm in the Cincinnati area and has served on the SORG board for more than a year.

In addition, Denise Hamet was named as the board’s new secretary. Hamet is the former economic development director for the city of Middletown, and she succeeds Denise Brodsky, Miller’s wife who resigned her position to join him in Kansas.

Brodsky and Miller were also co-founders of the SORG organization.

Nancy Griffith is the board’s new treasurer. She is the owner of Mockingbirds Cafe on Central Avenue in downtown Middletown. Griffith joined the SORG board at the same time as Riva. Griffith succeeds former treasurer and co-founder Ken Bowman. Bowman resigned his position on the board at the end of August but continues to provide information and assistance to the board, Riva said.

Other SORG board members include Bob Melloh, Jeff Johnson, Dan Schaub, Dawn Wamsley, and Linda Moorman.

Riva said the board is currently working to replace other vacant spots.

Miller played a critical role in the development and the success of the opera house during his seven years of service to the SORG organization including renovating and reopening Middletown’s historic theater.
