Pride Youth Development Foundation, a 35-plus-year organization, supports youth athletic activities and assists several organizations, including the Fairfield High School Marching Band, Midwest Cheer and the Hamilton Little League.
Fairfield Police Detective Ellie King said the attackers likely knew the man’s routine as he set up for bingo on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which includes entering the UAW Hall through a door left unlocked for him to access.
“We believe they were waiting for him,” King told the Journal-News.
She also said the attackers knew the volunteer arrived at the hall before the off-duty police officer.
Security measures have since changed, and no door is left open for volunteers to set up for bingo, police said.
The attackers wore masks, King said.
