The artwork by German artist Wolfgang Auer, was on display from October 2015 to September 2016 in front of the Fitton Center for Creative Arts and sparked curiosity and confusion, as well as plenty of dialogue in the community.
Visitors to the Fitton Center enjoyed taking selfies and photos with Auer’s fiberglass and resin sculpture, and now visitors to MUAM Sculpture Park are doing the same, using #BlueBabyMiamiOH when sharing pictures on social media, according to Bridget Garnai of the museum, who said the installation for Hatched Baby was recently completed.
“One of the museum’s New Year’s Resolutions is to share more sculpture in the Art Museum Sculpture Park. The museum is developing a rotating sculpture initiative in partnership with City of Sculpture, the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, and Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, so new pieces can be shared with Miami University’s campus and the Oxford community through periodic rotations of artwork,” Garnai said.
“Hatched Baby” has been received with enthusiasm at the museum, she added.

Garnai said the sculpture, which she describes as a “9-foot tall royal blue infant poking its head out of a cracked white egg,” will be on display at MUAM until the beginning of May.
