In response, many have reported they are offering up prayers.
The Allen family became known to many this year when the family, realizing Brody’s rare brain cancer meant he would not survive until Christmas, put up a tree and decorations. Neighbors in the Cincinnati suburb of Colerain Township joined them in being festive a few month early.
On Friday, the father posted much more positive news on Facebook in the “Team Brody” group.
“Just a quick update,” he wrote. “Andrew is fighting. He’s still in critical condition, but is stable. The staff here is truly amazing. We couldn’t be more grateful for the treatment Andrew has received and the comfort our family has received.”
He added: “Many of you have asked how to help. During the first 24 hours Andrew received 27 blood transfusions of various blood products. You never know how important that is until you need it. We all take for granted that someone was willing to take time to give for us. I’m that guy. I have never donated. Today I will.”
“If you’re in Cincinnati, we would be grateful if you would donate to the Hoxworth Blood Center, in honor of Andrew Allen. They have supplied Andrew with everything he has needed and continue to be ready should any of us need them.”
On Thursday, Todd Allen reported his son had “a very serious life-threatening traumatic brain injury, damage to his heart and lungs, multiple compound fractures to both of his legs, damage to his kidneys, a small laceration to his spleen, a broken shoulder blade, and a dislocated/broken collar bone.”
More than one vehicle was involved in Andrew’s accident, and police are investigating. Nobody has been charged, and drivers are all cooperating, according to police, who performed a reconstruction in an effort to learn exactly what happened. They’re waiting for Andrew to recover to hear from him.
Later in Todd Allen’s Thursday post, he urged, “Please, if you’re inclined, pray for Andrew’s healing and recovery. I don’t care what faith, language, religion or perspective in life you come from.”
“Your prayers, thoughts and well wishes carried us and more importantly, I believe, gave Brody the strength and a little extra time, to live his last days to the fullest with absolute joy,” Todd Allen added.
After being told many were reporting they were praying for the family, Todd Allen sent the Journal-News a message by text: “Please thank them all.”
