A 11-year-old child is dead, and five more are injured, after a shooting Friday night in the West End, Cincinnati police said.

CPD Chief Teresa Theetge said the shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. by Wade and Jones streets near Laurel Playground.

Saturday morning, CPD stated two of the shooting victims were transported to UC Medical Center and three others were transported to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. One victim at the Children’s Hospital is being treated with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Cincinnati Children’s hospital said in a statement Saturday morning, that one patient was discharged overnight and the conditions of the other two patients remains “critical but stable.” UC Medical Center said both victims taken there Friday night have been treated and discharged from the hospital.

Townda Chambers, a resident in the neighborhood, said she didn’t see anything but heard it.

Chambers called the shooting and crime in West End “crazy” and “terrible,” noting how just recently a woman was indicted for the murder of her baby in the neighborhood.

“I’ve been down here too long, it’s time for me to move,” Chambers said.

A WCPO reporter on the scene Friday stated that the police had no information to release about a shooter or shooters at that time.

“This is absolutely unacceptable in our city,” Theetge said. “Unacceptable.”

CPD is set to hold a press conference about the shooting Sunday at 2 p.m. The press conference was originally schedule for Saturday but was reschedule because CPD said they want to gather more details related to the “senseless tragedy.”

The investigation by the CPD Homicide Unit is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 513-352-3542.
