Warren County Convention and Visitors Bureau spokesman Scott Hutchinson said this resort is a “really big deal for us.”
“It’s really just another awesome addition to what we already have going on here, and really a well-timed addition,” he said.
Novel coronavirus cases have been less than 550 a day statewide since July 2, and ahead of the July 4 holiday were at their lowest national levels since mid-March 2020. People are traveling more as many states, including Ohio, have eased or lifted public health restrictions, including on travel.
“One of the big things, as people are getting back to travel, is that outdoorsy, fresh-air fun,” Hutchinson said. “Really something like this that really combines a major lodging addition here in Warren County with that outdoor and social-distance opportunity is really kind of the perfect thing to be adding to our lineup right now.”
Kings Island Camp Cedar is owned by Small Brothers LLC and Terra Firma Associates, but through a partnership and licensing agreement, it’s managed by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, owner of the Kings Island amusement park.
“We are excited to offer our guests a unique lodging experience and a contemporary outdoor retreat so close to Kings Island,” said Mike Koontz, vice president and general manager of Kings Island. “The addition of Kings Island Camp Cedar luxury outdoor resort will make a visit to our park even more memorable.”
Jon Small, chairman and CEO of Small Brothers, said Kings Island’s “ability to entertain” will provide guests at Camp Cedar “a place to create lasting memories.”
The $27 million luxury resort at 5158 Kings Island Drive in Deerfield Twp. is on a 52-acre site with 73 cottages available for rent, and 100 more cottages planned to be constructed. There are five styles of cottages, which sleep either four or eight people, and cost around $250 a night. It also has 164 RV sites with full hook-ups on either concrete or blacktop pads.
Other amenities include two heated pools, a retail store, several dining options, including the Ironwood Grill & Tap, fitness room, laundry, bathhouses, and an off-leash dog park.
The destination resort is just off Interstate 71 and is near major Warren County tourism attractions Kings Island, the Western & Southern Open and Warren County Sports Park. It’s also a 25-minute drive from Cincinnati.
Camp Cedar officials say the construction of the facility has already had a $12 million economic impact on the region, and the resort will be a significant contributor to the area economy. Warren County boasts tourism as its top industry ― it touts itself as Ohio’s largest playground ― and it reports that $1.3 billion in spending by 12 million-plus visitors supported nearly 13,000 jobs in the area.
The luxury resort will have 100 new full- and part-time employees that will contribute an estimated $400,000 in local tax revenues and an estimated $500,000 state in state tax revenues, according to the company.
