A deadly crash in Montgomery County was one of seven crashes that killed eight people over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend across the state.

The total mirrored last year’s results and was the fewest number of fatalities since 2018 when seven people died, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s provisional results released Monday for the five-day reporting period between midnight Wednesday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

One person died in a crash around 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Jefferson Twp. after the driver of a Chevrolet went left of center in the 5000 block of Germantown Pike and crashed into a northbound Toyota, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The crash victim’s name has not been released.

Last year there also were seven crashes resulting in eight deaths across the state, including a Dayton father and daughter killed in a Preble County crash.

Of the eight people killed this year, three were not wearing a seat belt and one crash involved impaired driving, according to the patrol.

Troopers also responded to 10,324 incidents across the state, with Warren County among the top 10 with 318 incidents. In addition, troopers arrested 247 people for driving a vehicle while impaired, issued 569 safety belt and 297 distracted driving citations, and assisted 1,638 motorists, the highway patrol said.
