Guests from all over the world have visited Niederman Family Farm during the holidays to experience the "Walk Thru the Bible Christmas Display." The festivities are open nightly through Friday, Dec. 30.
“The Christmas display is my grandparent’s gift to the community. It’s a way that we like to reach out to the community,” said Farm Manager Brian Garver.
Garver’s grandparents, Bob and Janet Niederman opened the display in December of 2001. Today, more than 10,000 visitors take a trip to the farm each year. Foreign exchange students and guests from almost every state have visited the display, for example. There is a guestbook in the barn for visitors to sign.
“We have seen a really positive response from the community. Every year, we have families that make this part of their annual holiday tradition,” Garver said.
Visitors will see a million lights that illuminate the way as they relive Biblical history through a collection of true-to-life scenes that make up the half-mile walk-through display.
In addition to the lights, the display includes life-sized figures of Bible characters that tell the Christmas story, along with colorful, oversized pictures that communicate about Jesus’ life, including the many miracles He performed, or Him praying in the garden.
More than 3,000 hours of volunteer time go into preparing the display each season. There is no charge for admission, however, donations are accepted. Guests are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, and will spend 30 to 45 minutes experiencing the entire display.
“It’s a walking display, so you’re walking around outside, along the path. The display tells the story of the Bible from Creation all the way through to the Ascension of Christ,” said Garver.
The message that the display portrays is a message of hope, it’s a message of joy, peace and reconciliation. It helps to bring people back to the true meaning of Christmas, and the true focus of where our hearts and minds should be, Garver said.
Designed as a free, family-friendly event, other highlights include entertainment in the barn, live animals, and holiday-themed music that sets the tone for the display. Guests will also receive complimentary hot chocolate and cookies in the decorated barn at the end of the walk-through. An updated entertainment schedule is available at www.niedermanfamilyfarm.com.
