Senior Elizabeth Carruthers won first place honors in painting for her piece, “When I Was Younger.”
Badin Fine Arts Department Chair Sarah Daniels praised all the school’s entries, especially those that placed high among contest judges of the exhibition, which runs through Feb. 20.
“This is always a wonderful exhibition, and we’re happy to be a part of it,” said Daniels.
“Our students are very creative and it’s rewarding for them to be selected for this prestigious high school showing.”
Badin junior Jaydah Jones earned a second-place award in drawing for her pastel piece, “Catcher in the Eye.”
And two seniors – Elizabeth Debbane and Mia Siefert – earned Honorable Mentions for their items, “Night at the Met” and “Child Chow.”
“Elizabeth is an outstanding artist, with an advance placement portfolio, so it was really nice for her to be recognized,” Daniels said. “When I tell a student that their piece is very good, that’s one thing. But when outsiders deem their work worth showing and being honored, that really means a lot.”
Badin, which enrolls more than 700 students from throughout the region, is Butler County’s only Catholic high school and located in west Hamilton.
In total, 11 Badin student artists had 24 pieces of artwork juried into the exhibition, according to a statement from school officials.
Other students with work displayed included seniors Michelle Garcia, Ava Hodgson-Geiger and Claire Mazes; juniors Grace Klopfstein and Paul Sabourin; and sophomores Cydney Bell and Emily Lewis.
