Middletown’s summer concert series, the Broad Street Bash, will continue on Wednesday, May 30, with headliner the Scotty Anderson Band and special guests Blue Armededdon at Governor’s Square in the heart of downtown.

The series kicked off on May 16 with Bad Habit and special guests Drive.

“It will be a lot of fun. We’re definitely looking for playing in Middletown, and we’re honored to be involved,” said Anderson.

Anderson said he and his band will play an array of rock and country songs, from Merle Haggard to Steely Dan for the band’s first appearance at Broad Street Bash.

The Broad Street Bash runs every other week on Wednesdays. The concert series showcases both local acts and regional headlining bands. Each concert typically attracts up to 2,000 attendees, with some bands like The Menus drawing close to 4,000 guests, organizers said.

“This has become Middletown’s event. It’s exciting that everyone in town and outside of this town looks forward to the Broad Street Bash,” said Tim Lewis, co-chair of the Broad Street Bash. “We have so many new businesses and restaurants in town, and one thing we are doing this year is the food we will feature at the Broad Street Bash will be provided by the downtown restaurants.”

Crowds can also expect several surprises and themed nights throughout the season, such as a Tutu Night when The Menus play on June 13. Concerts will be held in Governor’s Square Park at the intersection of Broad Street and Central Avenue in Middletown from 5 to 10 p.m. The regular season line-up includes six scheduled shows on Wednesdays.

“We are going to try to set a world record for the most tutus at a live concert,” said Ashley Baumgarten, who organizes the musical line-up and manages the stage for the Bash.

She said Tutu Night has become an annual tradition in Middletown in honor of The Menus and the different costumes the band wears on stage. Most everyone at the concert wears a tutu, including children.

“I’m excited about this year’s line-up. I’ve also noticed that there are a lot more kids that are coming, and what’s cool about the kids coming, is they will get in the very front of the stage and create their own dance floor, which allows the adults to get up and dance. It’s neat to see that from the stage,” Baumgarten said.

The concert season will also include two special concert events. The Broad Street Blast fireworks show on Tuesday, July 3 at Smith Park will feature headliner Thunderstruck (an AC/DC tribute band) with The Magnums. The Broad Street Bash season will conclude with the annual Monster Bash, Middletown’s city-wide Halloween party, on Saturday, Oct. 13.
