Beer and planes combine for a new fundraiser in Middletown

A new craft beer event is taking flight from a local airport.

The first Hops in the Hangar will blend craft beer fans and aviation enthusiasts in a hangar at the Middletown Regional Airport as a fundraiser in support of the revitalization of downtown Middletown, said Susie Hatton, one of several event sponsors.

This Aug. 18 event, which is being organized by Downtown Middletown Inc., is the brainchild of Jamie Murphy, who along with her Phillip, have been heavily involved in the community for years, Hatton said.

Hops in the Hangar will feature beer from about 30 craft breweries throughout the region and will showcase a variety of aircraft. Patrons will be able to taste 15 samples from more than 70 different craft beers from the breweries participating. In addition, there will be food trucks with a variety of offerings available for purchase.

Participating breweries are: 13 Below Brewery, 21st Amendment Brewing, Anderson Valley Brewing Co., Ballast Point, Brooklyn Brewing Co., Deschutes Brewery, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Fat Head’s Brewery, Fig Leaf Brewing Co., Fig Leaf Brewing Co., Fretboard Brewing Co., Grainworks Brewing Co., Great Lakes Brewery, MadTree Brewing Co., March First Brewing, Mount Carmel Brewing Co., Multiple Brewing, Municipal Brew Works, Odd Side Ales, Platform Beer Co., Rivertown Brewery, Rolling Mill Brewing Co., Samuel Adams, Short’s Brewing Co., Sierra Nevada, Swine City Brewing, Taft’s Brewing Co., Urban Artifact, Victory Brewing Co., and Warped Wing Brewing Co.

The event will also feature professional skydivers, a show by Redline Air Acrobats, and a virtual realty drone flight.
