The grant partners include the Edge Teen Center, Envision Partnerships, Safety Council of Southwestern Ohio, the Fairfield Coalition, and the Coalition for a Healthy Community-Oxford Area. The funds will serve 18,600 people in the county.
The coalition, which is under the Butler County Family and Children First Council (FCFC), will work to increase protective factors and mitigate emerging risk factors that are putting youth at greater risk of alcohol, marijuana, opioid, and other substance use in our county, said Beth Race, Butler County FCFC executive director.
Projects include coordinated countywide messaging, increasing evidence-based programing, youth-led prevention efforts including a summer summit, and identifying youth and families impacted by the opioid epidemic to connect them to needed wraparound services.
“By investing in youth early, we help build protective factors that buffer adversity,“ said Race. ”For every $1 spent in prevention spending studies have shown that $18 in costlier services are saved.“
The OneOhio Foundation was created to fund projects across 19 regions in the state, distributing more than $51 million in opioid settlement funds. The city of Hamilton is within Region 14, which includes Butler, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Greene, Madison and Warren counties.
The 2024 Regional Grant application process had an overwhelming response, according to OneOhio. The organization received more than 1,400 funding requests totaling more than a half-billion dollars. There is just more than $51 million available to distribute this cycle, according to the foundation.
Grantees have been selected through a process that includes input from the OneOhio Regions, expert panel, the Grant Oversight Committee and the foundation’s Board of Directors. The near-$918,000 grant to the Prevention Coalition is the second-most awarded to-date by OneOhio. Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board received $1 million.
Award announcements continue weekly.
“We’re pleased to partner with the Butler County Family and Children First Council to support their efforts to save lives, rebuild families affected by addiction, and foster strong and resilient places to live,” said Alisha Nelson, Executive Director of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation.
