Under Daskalakis’ leadership, West Chester Hospital experienced patient volume growth across the emergency department and inpatient/outpatient service areas and received its fifth consecutive Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades.
“Tom is an inspiring and dedicated leader here at UC Health and is well respected in the northern counties we serve,” UC Health Chief Operating Officer Pete Gilbert said in a release. “We’re looking forward to continued growth and community partnership for West Chester Hospital under his leadership.”
Daskalakis said since starting in the role, he didn’t paid attention to the “interim” label previously attached to his title.
“I’ve just been functioning as I was that individual,” he said.
Daskalakis said the ability to grow high acuity services is his top vision for the hospital.
“The biggest opportunity for West Chester Hospital is to take advantage of its big differentiator that UC Health offers and that’s the fact that since we are connected to the College of Medicine and UCMC,” he said. “We have the ability to provide high acuity, very high-end specialists to this community.”
Joe Hinson, president and CEO of the West Chester-Liberty Chamber Alliance, said when Daskalakis first came into the area, has fundamentally done a great deal of things that are relationship-based in the community.
“He’s gotten involved with committees, he’s sitting on boards and he’s participating,” Hinson said. “He’s reaching out with the brand of the West Chester Hospital name more and not just in the West Chester area.
Hinson said West Chester Hospital is a community hospital and Daskalakis sees the community “much grander than West Chester Twp. and Liberty Twp.”
“He’s reached out into the Warren County area, up the (Interstate) 75 corridor, further west into Butler County,” he said. “He’s put together some community events that support the hospital and he’s engaged a lot of people from a lot of different industries to become involved in their hospital. The community is much greater than the West Chester name and I think he has recognized that and done an excellent job.”
A member of the 2017 Mason Deerfield Chamber Board of Directors, Daskalakis was honored in fall 2016 by the Mason Deerfield Chamber with an Excellence in Education award for his collaboration with area schools.
Prior to joining UC Health in 2011, Daskalakis served in several leadership positions with Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton and with Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Mich. He holds a biology degree from the University of Cincinnati, a master’s in health care administration from Xavier University and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
