Total Quality Logistics names Youngstown for next Ohio location

Youngstown is slated to be the site of the next Total Quality Logistics office opening in Ohio.

After first receiving state tax credit approval in December, the freight brokerage company has named Youngstown to be the location of a new Ohio office in the works, said Mark Motz, spokesman for Clermont County-based Total Quality, on Monday. Previously, the location of the sales office opening was undisclosed.

A target opening date of summer 2016 has been set, but no specific office location has been selected within the city, Motz said.

When the Youngstown-area office opens, it’s expected to create about 70 full-time jobs, generating approximately $3.8 million in annual payroll, according to information provided by Ohio Development Services Agency.

The logistics company was also considering sites in Michigan and Indiana, according to state documents.

Currently, Total Quality Logistics, founded in 1997 by University of Dayton graduate Ken Oaks, has regional satellite offices in Centerville, West Chester Twp., Western Hills, Milford and Erlanger, Ky., in addition to its Union Twp. headquarters. The firm is a freight brokerage, or a middle man in the transportation industry. Staff negotiates truck loads, rates and destinations between the companies that need products hauled and the truck carriers that deliver goods.

Altogether, TQL employs more than 3,000 people nationwide. A total 32 locations have been announced in 18 states to date.

The company's growth has made it the largest privately-held company in the Cincinnati Tristate region based on 2013 sales of $1.6 billion.
