Total Quality Logistics eyeing plans for new Ohio sales office

Greater Cincinnati-based freight brokerage firm Total Quality Logistics wants to open a new sales office in Ohio, although little more details about where and how soon were available Wednesday.

Wherever the office is located, the Clermont County company plans to create about 70 full-time jobs, generating approximately $3.8 million in annual payroll as a result of the expansion, according to information provided by Ohio Development Services Agency.

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority met Wednesday and approved a 40 percent, 5-year Job Creation Tax Credit for the project.

There’s no guarantee Total Quality will open a new sales office, as Ohio is offering incentives to lure the project. The logistics company is also considering sites in Michigan and Indiana, according to state government documents.

Currently, Total Quality Logistics, founded in 1997 by University of Dayton graduate Ken Oaks, has regional satellite offices in Centerville, West Chester Twp., Western Hills, Milford and Erlanger, Ky., in addition to its Union Twp. headquarters. The firm is a freight brokerage, or a middle man in the transportation industry. Staff negotiates truck loads, rates and destinations between the companies that need products hauled and the truck carriers that deliver goods.

Altogether, TQL employs nearly 3,000 people at 27 locations in 16 states.

The company's growth has made it the largest privately-held company in the Cincinnati Tristate region based on 2013 sales of $1.6 billion. And Executive Vice President Kerry Byrne recently told this news outlet that Total Quality expects to break $2 billion in sales this year.
