Sears Hardware in Fairfield closing its doors

The Sears Appliance and Hardware store on Ohio 4 will close for business Friday

The location at 4655 Dixie Highway, which sells hardware, lawn and garden and appliances, opened in approximately 1998. It employs 18 people, according to Greg Angel, general manager of the store. Those employees will be offered a chance to retain their positions within Sears, he said.

There are no plans to discount items within the Fairfield store during its final week, Angel said.

“Most of the products on the inside of the store are being transferred to different locations throughout southwest Ohio,” he said. “We’re not doing a liquidation, we’re just … closing this location and blending the product into other places around town.”

The location is one of five operated by Columbus-based Wade Eston LLC, according to Angel.

The Sears franchisee operates Sears Appliance and Hardware Stores and Sears Home Appliance Showrooms in Columbus, Pickerington, Loveland, Fairfield and West Chester Twp.

Sears made the Fairfield location a franchise in February 2014 and was picked up by Wade Eston, which now “has decided to step away from the business,” Angel said.

Calls to Wade Eston LLC were not returned.

“Sears … has taken over a couple of the other stores that Wade Eston is stepping away from, just the one in Fairfield, they’re not picking up the lease on it,” he said.
