The business will provide an alternative venue to the traditional bar scene, Brunner said, and a place for those who enjoy sharing a board game with family and friends.
“It’s a place where people can come to just grab a drink, munch on some good food and try out a new board game or an old favorite," he said.
The board game library will launch with more than 300 games. A Game Knight will also offer trivia leagues, plus Friday night “Magic: The Gathering” play.

Brunner, who said he owned a comic book and gaming shop in the 1990s, has always been into board games and has hosted game nights at his home for the past 20-plus years.
“I noticed that more and more, you go out with friends and they spend their time on cellphones instead of actually interacting with each other,” he said. “The idea was to put something together that promoted face-to-face conversation and putting the cellphone down to have a good time. It supplies a springboard for conversation instead of looking up the latest sports scores and answering texts.”

Brunner said after departing a Fortune 500 company, he initially looked to Fairfield and Fairfield Twp. to locate A Game Knight, but opted instead for Hamilton’s German Village because of the city’s “booming” economic revitalization, including The Marcum apartments and the planned Spooky Nook Sports at Champion Mill.
“The town’s been cleaned up, spruced up and everything looks nice and clean,” he said. “When I was growing up, this part of town was not someplace you would walk by yourself and now it’s completely different.”
