Mercy Health partners with Walgreens clinics

The Cincinnati-based Mercy Health network has announced a partnership with Walgreens to provide coordinated and expanded health care services to patients in Greater Cincinnati.

Mercy Health — Cincinnati will work with Healthcare Clinics at select Walgreens in Ohio and Kentucky to provide care options for patients with serious conditions outside of the clinics’ scope of services and to help manage the treatment of chronic diseases, according to the health system.

The collaboration will include direct communication between Mercy Health physicians and Healthcare Clinic nurse practitioners to coordinate patient care and share patient information.

The Walgreens locations in Ohio include:

  • 6355 Dixie Highway, Fairfield
  • 5403 North Bend Road, Cincinnati
  • 2320 Boudinot Ave., Cincinnati
  • 9775 Colerain Ave., Cincinnati
  • 719 Ohio Pike, Cincinnati
  • 4090 E. Galbraith Road, Deer Park
  • 10529 Loveland Madeira Road, Loveland
  • 605 Montgomery Road, Norwood
  • 12110 Lebanon Road, Sharonville

“Our agreement with Walgreens extends quality care directly into our communities to provide greater access for patients, which is absolutely in line with our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve,” said Dr. Dan Roth, chief medical officer, Mercy Health – Cincinnati and president, Mercy Health Physicians. “We believe our communities will benefit from this type of collaborative model as we join forces with Walgreens to deliver coordinated care.”

Mercy Health — Cincinnati is the third major health system to ink an agreement with a retail pharmacy chain.

Last week, Premier Health announced a collaborative agreement with CVS Health to enhance access to high-quality, affordable care for its patients. Terms of the agreement call for CVS to become part of Premier’s provider network under new insurance plans the hospital system is preparing to launch next year.

Premier Health Plan will offer individual and family plans both on and off Ohio’s health insurance marketplace starting in 2015, and will cover prescriptions and visits to CVS’ retail pharmacies and MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics. CVS operates more than 7,700 retail pharmacies and 900 MinuteClinics across the U.S.

A similar partnership was reached last November between the UC Health network in Cincinnati and The Little Clinic, Kroger’s in-store health service. That deal impacted 18 stores, or all Ohio Kroger stores in the grocer’s Cincinnati/Dayton Division already with an in-store clinic.
