In the category of fruit beer, Municipal Brew Works’ Orange Agave Blonde won a gold medal. In the Classic Irish-Style Dry Stout category, the Laoch Irish Stout won silver. Laoch is Celtic for “hero,” and is brewed annually with Hamilton firefighters. In the Robust Porter category, Midnight Cut won bronze. In the Golden or Blonde Ale, Approachable Blonde Ale won bronze.
Other area breweries also won. Among them were Christian Moerlein Brewing Company ‘s Emancipator, which won gold for German-Style Doppelbock or Eisbock; Moerlein Lager House Smoked Marzen, gold in the Smoke Beer category; Morelein Lager House’s Barbarossa, bronze in the European-Style Dark/Muenchner Dunkel category; Moerlein Lager House’s Helles Lager, bronze in the Muenchner Style Helles category; Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co.’s Hudepohl Bock Beer, bronze in the Traditional German-Style Bock category. Samuel Adams, which also brews in Cincinnati, also won several awards.
Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. was named Ohio Brewery of the Year.
Jim Goodman, one of Municipal Brew Works’ owners, said since it opened in June, 2016, the micro-brewery has earned medals with six beers in state, national or international beer competitions.
