Sherry Hoskins said she and her husband Mike poured their first candle and “literally fell in love” with the process of candlemaking.

“That’s why our tag line is ‘Love At First Pour,’” said Hoskins, a co-owner of of Petals & Wicks at 119 Main St. in Hamilton. “We loved the concept of being able to pour our own custom scented products such as candles, tarts, room sprays, reed diffusers and so much more.”

The business got its start as floral concept Sherry’s Petals in late 2016, then switched Petals & Wicks this May, offering candle-pouring capabilities.

"Our existing branding was no longer a fit for both our unique floral designs and a candle bar, so we decided to re-brand who we are and represent our message," she said. "Rebranding Sherry's Petals to Petals & Wicks has been very well received by Hamilton and the community as a whole. It's something that's new in Butler County and appeals to every age group, young or old."

Petals & Wicks offers a variety of premade scented candles and options to create your own custom scented candles, tarts and sprays.

The couple said they are motivated to support not just Main Street businesses, but any Hamilton revitalization effort.

“Mike and I grew up in Hamilton, we raised our family in Hamilton, so we know the difference between the old and the new Hamilton,” Hoskins said. “As the revitalization of Hamilton began we got excited and wanted to be part of the resurgence here. We couldn’t think of a better location to open Petals & Wicks than right here on Main Street. We want to be part of the growth here.

Hoskins said businesses want to be trendy and do things out of the norm.

“Collaborations with other businesses on Main Street has been amazing,” she said. “It’s bringing groups of family and friends to shop, dine and experience Main Street.”
