Strong winds, rain to begin late tonight as hurricane remnants move in

Wind Advisory in effect across the area on Friday

There will be a chance of showers and increasing winds starting late tonight as the remains of Hurricane Helene move into the area, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Lows will be around 65 degrees overnight.

The NWS issued a Wind Advisory across the area from 10 a.m. to midnight on Friday. During that time, the agency said it expects winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts as high as 45 to 55 mph, though isolated stronger gusts are possible.

Winds are expected to be slightly stronger in more southern areas such as Butler and Warren counties, the NWS said.

On Friday, Hurricane Helene will bring rain and gusty winds to the region. Shower chances and winds will increase early, with rain likely for most of the day.

About an inch to 1½ inches of rainfaill is expected Friday, with maximum wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph possible.

Highs will be around 75 degrees.

The rain will continue Friday night, with a chance of thunderstorms for a few hours in the late evening.

Rain chances will drop, though not disappear, and gusty winds will fall after midnight, for a slight chance of rain and light winds through dawn on Saturday.

Lows will be around 64 degrees.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy and warm, with a chance of showers throughout the day and overnight. Highs will be around 74 degrees, falling to a low around 63 degrees overnight.
