Police: Woman with gun in downtown Hamilton not breaking any laws

Police responded downtown this morning after a report of a woman walking around with a firearm.

Dispatchers received a call at 9:43 a.m. for a report of a woman on the corner of Maple Avenue and Witt Way reportedly with an assault rifle over her shoulder and a handgun in her possession.

Police stopped the woman nearby at the southeast corner of Court Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and talked with her, according to Hamilton Police Sgt. Brian Robinson.

She was in possession of a “long gun with a shoulder strap,” but she was not breaking any laws, he said.

“Everything is fine,” Robinson said. “The person (was) complying with the law.”

Robinson said he understood why the caller was concerned, especially since the woman was near the Butler County Government Services Center.
