Middletown Speedway manager says employee lottery scheme netted $1,000

A Speedway district manager told Middletown police he caught an employee stealing more than $1,000 in cash from the Ohio Lottery machine, according to a report.

The manager at Speedway, 3501 Roosevelt Blvd., told police last week that beginning on Dec. 26, 2018, an employee began pulling $20 at a time from the cash register.

The employee typed into the Ohio Lottery machine there was a customer with a $20 winning ticket, however, there was no winning ticket. Instead, the employee took the money and stole the money.

The store’s surveillance camera showed the employee stole from the machine about 30 times for a total of $1,010, the record read. The employee was going to be terminated, the manager told police.
